Learning with Laine
“The world cannot be understood without numbers. But the world cannot be understood with numbers alone.”
An IR (International Relations) student turned data enthusiast! I love learning new things and I love to solve problems. This blog site will be a repository of the things I learn, my thoughts and ideas and an invitation to join me in my data journey!
I am part of the DS9 cohort at the Information Lab. I spent 4 months of training, specialising in Tableau and Alteryx. We worked with new data from different clients every week as part of our projects.
Prior to joining the Data School, I had no experience in Tableau or Alteryx, but I enjoyed the consulting part of my previous volunteering gigs.
When I started the application process, I was hooked from the start. I spent hours on Tableau, analysing data. It was then that I knew I wanted a career in the industry and that the Data School would be the best place for me to do that.
As part of the programme at the Data School, we are “placed” in various companies as Tableau and Alteryx consultants.
I will be talking about my experiences, what I’ve learnt and some of the soft skills I think are required to become a successful consultant.
An area I am particularly interested in is International Development. Studying International Relations and volunteering abroad were symptomatic of my desire to understand the interconnectedness of our world.
I am interested in finding effective and meaningful solutions to challenges faced by developing nations.
Stay tuned to hear about the projects I’ve been involved in!
Being part of the Data School has made me realise that it is never too late to learn something new. Coming from a non-tech background, I have so much to learn and I want to document this learning process.
My hope for this blog is that it becomes a learning repository for people interested in data, especially for those who have no experience in it.
I invite people to learn with me!
